OverlijdensberichtDad passed away peacefully on February 10th, 2009, from complications of Parkinson's Disease, just short of his 96th birthday.
Born in Donalda, Alberta, March 20th 1913, he is the last family member of his generation. Dad was predeceased by his dear wife of 64 years, Phyllis in 2006. He was the most loving father of daughters Maryl (Ron) Russell, Lake Country and Moira (Paul) Hamelin, South Surrey, and sons Donald (Arlene) Van Blarcom, West Kelowna and David (Susan) Van B1arcom, Vancouver. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Joyce Thomson, Calgary, and many nieces and nephews.
Dad served 27 years in the RCMP, retiring in 1961, and was a life member of the Okanagan Division of the RCMP Veterans Association. He was also a 70 year member in Freemasonry. Dad was always active within his church, and his faith and communion with God will live on through his heirs.
The family would like to thank Canon Jim Kiddell, Dr. Tersia Lichtenstein, Dr. Graeme McCauley and the caring staff on 4A - K.G.H. Many heartfelt thanks to Wendy Holly, Interior Health, Hawthorn Park and Orchard Manor for your wonderful loving care of Dad.
A visitation will be held at 7:00 pm, Sunday, February 15th at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road. A celebration of Dad's life will take place at 11:00 am, Monday, February 16th at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, 608 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna. A reception will be held after the service at St. George's Masonic Hall, 1564 Pandosy Street, catered by the Order of the Eastern Star. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society of BC, suite 600, 890 West Pender St., Vancouver, BC, V6C 1J9. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting , 250-860-7077.
