| Obituary | Ann M. Van BLARICOM, 94, of 313 S. Jefferson St. in Rockwell, died Thursday (Aug. 23, 2007) at her granddaughter Patti's home in Rockwell.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at the United Methodist Church, 303 E. Monroe St. in Rockwell, with the Rev. John P. SCHERB officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from noon until 1 p.m. Monday at the church, prior to Ann's service. Those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy or memorial may wish to direct them to the Ann M. Van Blaricom Memorial Fund in the care of her granddaughter, Patti KLANG, 302 S. Jefferson St., Rockwell, IA 50469.
Ann Marie Van BLARICOM was born Feb. 2, 1913, at home in Rockwell to John and Bertha (ENGEL) MOOREHEAD. She was the third of four children born to her parents and graduated from the Rockwell Community High School.
Ann was united in marriage to Henry J. Van BLARICOM on Aug. 21, 1935, in Mason City. They became the proud parents of a daughter, Joy.
Ann was a fun-loving and strong-willed woman who provided her entire family with unconditional love. She was an avid bingo player, usually seen at the Elks Lodge in Mason City playing bingo three nights a week. Ann also enjoyed quilting and playing cards. Her foremost passion and priority was remaining connected and involved in the lives of her family.
Ann was a member of the United Methodist Church, a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and active at the Senior Citizen's Center, all in Rockwell. Ann may be well-remembered as a retail clerk at Damon's Clothing in Mason City, where she was employed for approximately 25 years, beginning her tenure on April 1, 1959. For a span of time, Ann also worked at Jean's Café in Rockwell as a waitress and cook. Her family claim that Ann made the best homemade noodles and cookies.
Upon learning that her beloved daughter, Joy, had terminal cancer, Ann not only became Joy's caregiver throughout the illness, but vowed to nurture and raise Joy's five young children, a promise she kept.
Left to cherish Ann's memory are her five grandchildren, Patti (Dan) KLANG of Rockwell, Tom (JoAnn) STOLTENBERG of Bloomfield, N.M., Steve (Lori) STOLTENBERG of Mason City, Scott (Shelly) STOLTENBERG of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jeff (Tricia) STOLTENBERG of Ladonia, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin) DUSOLD, Marino VIGIL, Renee (Tony) LAUDNER, Sommer STOLTENBERG, Ryan (Nicole) KLANG, Jerricka STOLTENBERG, Brock STOLTENBERG, Alicia STOLTENBERG, Chanelle STOLTENBERG, Kaianna STOLTENBERG, Eric STOLTENBERG, Chase STOLTENBERG and Riley STOLTENBERG; her great-great grandchildren, Sarah and Kyle DUSOLD, Marino Jr. and Hunter VIGIL, Zach and Kylie LAUDNER, Lucas and Landon KLANG, Elianna Valencia and Nicholas Anderson STOLTENBERG. She will also be dearly missed by numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding Ann in death is her husband, Henry J. Van BLARICOM, in June 1970; her daughter, Joy STOLTENBERG; her parents, John and Bertha MOOREHEAD; her sister, Katie MOOREHEAD; her twin brothers, Elvin and Delvin MOOREHEAD; her grandson, Jack STOLTENBERG; and her son-in-law, Jerry STOLTENBERG.
