During his career, he drilled for oil, drove a semi-truck, was a cement finisher, and drove a school bus. He returned to truck driving towards the end of his career and retired in 2002.

OverlijdensberichtAlicia was born March 25, 1935 in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. She married Robert Brock VanBlaricom in 1959 and moved to Long Beach, California where she gave birth to 5 children. In 1970, the family moved to Portland, Oregon where she juggled raising her children, continuing her education, volunteering and employment. Alicia divorced in 1978. In 1981, we suffered the loss of our eldest brother, Antonio Joseph, her first-born son. Although these years were full of hardships, she displayed such strength and determination, as she taught us by example and exhibited for us her faith in God. She didn’t let stress get the best of her. She would play her piano, guitar and sing around the house. The Madeline Parish also played a big role in counseling and supporting our family through these years.
She attended Portland Community College and volunteered countless hours to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Central Catholic High School, The Madeline Parish and School, Sabin Community Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundations and others. She worked various jobs in the banking, clerical and customer service fields. Her hobbies were sewing, swimming, square dancing, gardening, reading, singing, music and most of all serving others. She was a first class lady, beautiful inside and out. She was humble, unselfish, gentle, courageous and very loving. Her character was one of a strong woman full of genuine empathy and compassion for others. She touched thousands of people and gave with what little she had and graciously contributed to countless charities.
Alicia always knew the true meaning of “Family” and her most precious gift to us was unconditional love and support. To her family and friends and other people around her, she gave much but asked for very little in return. What you saw is what you got, a genuine warm smile and full of love. She was immensely proud of her achievements, raising a beautiful family, becoming a US citizen and purchasing our family home. Though our mother did not drive, she would sacrifice and pick up groceries for her neighbors in need. She would visit them in their homes and hospitals wishing them well. Through the years our mother attended many birthday parties, family get together and holidays and always showed us what is was to forgive and show a caring heart. As petite as she was, she made a big impression on the nurses and doctors who treated her. She would provide them copies of the latest medical readings and studies and let them know she was always so grateful for their efforts.
During that last few years, our mother had two major operations. She was fighting congestive heart failure and breast cancer but that did not stop her and she did not give up. Although we were told at the beginning of this year she would only have two months to live, she did not do according to the doctor’s plan. She was able to see her son’s visit and traveled to Nogales, Mexico to see her sister and all her nieces and nephews. God was ready and called her home on December 19, 2014. Remembering our mother’s latest habit was the peace sign signal. Today, we are sure she is looking down and saying, “Peace be with you”.
She leaves behind the wonderful legacy of a close-knit, caring family. We are to here to carry on supporting and looking after one another, showing the same love that she did, so that our memories of her will not fade, but will grow stronger as time goes by.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hortencia Aguilar and Jose Jesus Delgado, and her first-born son Antonio Joseph VanBlaricom. Serving and left to honor her life are younger sister Olga Josefina Delgado and her family, daughters Linda Alicia VanBlaricom and Mary Elizabeth Demezas, and sons Robert Brock VanBlaricom Jr. and Abelardo Eric VanBlaricom. Her granddaughters Elizabeth Jeanne Cruchon, Alejandra Alicia VanBlaricom, Kristina Ann Farkas, Yesenia Catalina vanBlaricom, Jeru Elizabeth Demezas and 3 great grand children.
