OverlijdensberichtMarie E. Van Blaricom, 80, of Menomonie, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie due to complications caused by diabetes.
The former Marie Ellen Engebretson was born Nov. 16, 1918, in the town of Vance Creek, Barron County, to Ingval C. and Grace E. (Thomas) Engebretson. She was the oldest of five children and helped her father farm. Because of this experience, she learned to love the outdoors and continued throughout her life to enjoy gardening and birdwatching.
Marie married Wayne Van Blaricom on Feb. 17, 1945, at her home in the Town of Vance Creek. After a short while they settled in Menomonie. Together, they raised six children. Always an active, hard-working person, she spent her time caring for her family, sewing, gardening, and doing all sorts of handicrafts. While her children were young, she assumed various leadership roles with the City Ramblers 4-H Club. Her husband, Wayne, passed away on June 24, 1969. Marie will be remembered for her kindness, her energy, and her steadfastness. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Marie is survived by three sons and three daughters, Harlan (Bev) Van Blaricom of Medford, Ione (Dave) Meoska of Bagley, Carla (Brian) Hofland of Park Ridge, Ill., and Ruth Van Blaricom, Douglas Van Blaricom and Niles (Linda) Van Blaricom, all of Menomonie; eight grandchildren; three sisters and one brother, Frances (Don) Denly of Hugo, Minn., Doris Voltz of Minneapolis, Minn., Vergil (Clarence) Rothe of Hudson, and Vern (Bev) Engebretson of Clear Lake; an aunt, Mildred Moe of Clear Lake; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Marie will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and her parents, Ingval and Grace Engebretson.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie with the Rev. Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran/Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Olson' Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
